Targeted Maths
Hendersons' Targeted Maths Program
Identify and close gaps in mathematical understanding with research-backed evidence — a personalised and targeted pathway to success in maths for students in Years 5–8.

Hendersons' Targeted Maths Program is designed to identify and provide direction to close gaps in mathematical understanding with research-backed evidence. The Program provides a personalised and targeted pathway to success in maths for students in years 5–8.
How It Works
Pinpoint the gaps or misconceptions
Online pre-assessment identifies exactly where understanding breaks down.
Start closing the gaps
Targeted workshop consolidates learning with teaching specific to each student's needs.
Continued growth
Post-assessment and advice build confidence and direct future focused learning.
Why It Works
- Backed by over 30 years of research
- Focused on conceptual understanding
- Hendersons' small class sizes — no more than 8 students
- Track progress so you can see real improvement
Each workshop is $250 per student and includes the pre-assessment, targeted workshop and post-assessment with advice.
How to Start Your Child's Learning Journey
- Decide on the mathematics concepts to target: Number, Fractions, Decimals, Percentages, Algebra and Measurement.
- Contact Hendersons to book — phone (03) 9813 0277 or email [email protected].
- Your child completes the online pre-assessment quiz prior to the workshop (details shared upon booking).
- Your child attends the targeted workshop at our Hawthorn site — learning activities specific to their needs, plus an online post-assessment (students are advised to bring a device).
- You receive a copy of the pre- and post-assessment and advice to direct future focused learning.
Workshop Topics
Six Concepts, Targeted Precisely
Number
Factors, multiples and order of operations — the foundations that matter in algebra, using positive whole numbers across addition, subtraction, multiplication, division and brackets.
Fractions
Operations with fractions, simplifying, converting between improper and mixed numbers, and finding common denominators — explored through models, number lines and equivalent fractions.
Percentages
The three core percentage problems: finding the part, the percentage, and the whole — plus estimating percentages and percentage changes for real-world data.
Algebra
Pronumerals as numbers, correcting misconceptions (e.g. letters as objects), simple expressions and forming algebraic expressions from visual models.
Decimals
Decimal place value (tenths, hundredths, thousandths), identifying misconceptions through comparison tasks, and multiplying/dividing by 10, 100 and 1000.
Measurement
Reading scales, length, perimeter, area, volume and capacity — with metric conversions and both exact and estimated calculations.
