Supporting VCE students to perform at their best — when it matters most

The Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE) is not just about how much students know.

A significant proportion is about how they demonstrate that knowledge under exam conditions.

We support VCE students and families to understand what assessors are really looking for, how exams are marked, and how to prepare strategically — not reactively.

VCE Exam Preparation

Our Approach to VCE Exam Preparation

Our VCE exam preparation programs are designed to:

  • Build clarity and confidence in exam settings
  • Teach students how assessors think
  • Remove uncertainty about what “good” responses look like
  • Develop calm, repeatable exam strategies

We support students to walk into exams knowing: How to manage pressure effectively

When Is the Right Time to Prepare for VCE Exams?

The strongest outcomes occur when students prepare before stress peaks, not during it.

  • Term 3–early Term 4 to consolidate exam technique
  • The final exam period to apply well‑rehearsed strategies
  • Effective preparation is planned, calm and intentional.

Supporting Students and Families with Confidence

Every VCE journey is different.

Our role is to provide clarity, reassurance and proven strategies, so students can focus on doing their best work when it matters most.

If you’d like guidance on VCE readiness, exam strategy, or what your child truly needs next, we’re here to help.

What Makes VCE Challenging (and Why Many Students Struggle)

By the time students reach VCE, most are working hard and “know the content”. Yet results sometimes don’t reflect effort.

  • Strong understanding, but weak exam reasoning
  • Difficulty interpreting questions the way examiners intend
  • Running out of time or writing too much of the wrong thing
  • Stress and pressure impacting performance on the day
  • VCE success depends on exam literacy — not just revision.

How the VCE GAT Works for Students

The General Achievement Test (GAT) is a compulsory assessment completed by students undertaking the Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE). Although it is not tied to a specific subject, the test plays an important role in maintaining the fairness, reliability and integrity of the VCE assessment system.

The GAT assesses students’ general capabilities in areas such as literacy, numeracy, analytical reasoning and written communication. These skills underpin academic performance across subjects and provide valuable information about students’ ability to interpret information, reason with evidence and communicate ideas clearly.

Within the VCE system, GAT results contribute to several key processes. They support the statistical moderation of school-based assessments across schools and provide evidence when Derived Examination Scores must be calculated due to illness or other disruption. For this reason, the assessment forms an important part of the quality assurance framework used in VCE assessment.
